Project 13: From Vierverlaten to HessenwegTenneT is planning to upgrade the Vierverlaten-Zeijerveen-Hoogeveen route to make more capacity available for the high-voltage grid in the north of the Netherlands. According to the Drenthe Provincial Environmental Plan and the Overijssel Regional Plan, this line would actually be decommissioned in 2010. However, because of the constantly growing demand for capacity on the grid and in order to avoid destruction of capital, TenneT has been calling for the Hoogeveen-Zwolle route to be preserved and upgraded. In concert with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the provincial authorities, a plan was drawn up for compensating measures in Reestdal and Oude Diep, two valuable nature reserves through which the line runs. TenneT is earmarking EUR 10 million for land purchases and other measures to facilitate nature development and for wildlife corridors in the National Ecological Network.
