Review of 2008: October

CASC-CWE set up

The European Commission gave the green light for a joint company made up of the Belgian, French, German, Luxembourg and Dutch national grid operators (TSOs). CASC-CWE (Capacity Allocation Service Company for the Central Western European Electricity Market) will provide cross-border services - a significant step towards the integration of the five national electricity markets into a single regional electricity market for Central Western Europe.

Exports

In October the Netherlands achieved net exports of 1,800 MW during peak hours. With European pricing, the production system in the Netherlands has the perfect incentive for higher production and export levels. The Netherlands is set to become the energy hub of Europe.
